A Cornard five-year-old is set to walk 10km in memory of his beloved grandad who lived with a familial early-onset form of Alzheimer's for two decades.
Raising funds in memory of his grandad Ian Fleig, who died in April, aged 63, Noah will walk the impressive 10km between Sudbury and Bures on Saturday, September 7.
Noah's mum, Jessica Harrison, said her little boy had a very close bond with his 'Gramps' and looked out for him as he knew he had a "poorly brain."
Familial Alzheimer's disease is an inherited form of Alzheimer's which is very rare and accounts for fewer than 1% of Alzheimer's cases overall.
It usually occurs earlier on in life than typical Alzheimer's, which normally begins when a person is in their 70s or 80s.
Noah's walk will raise funds for Rare Dementia Support, the charity that helped Ms Harrison through genetic testing herself and supported Mr Fleig after his diagnosis and through the following years of research.
A JustGiving page has been launched and he has so far raised more than £370 of a £500 target.
The page reads: "Noah is determined to raise money for other people living with Alzheimer’s. He has chosen to fundraise for Rare Dementia Support, due to the incredible level of care the charity gives to people walking this path."
It continues: "Noah wants to say ‘thank you everyone!’ in advance to those who are able to donate to his big 10km challenge, which he will be completing with his dad."
Ms Harrison said Mr Fleig would walk for miles every day before he became too ill, so the walk is a fitting tribute for his life.
Noah, who is a pupil at Wells Hall Primary School, said: "I really miss my Gramps. He loved walking so I wanted to do a walk."
