People will notice some changes to high streets across Suffolk this month as businesses and archive offices close down.

Here are some changes you will see across the county in August.

Halifax, Sudbury

Halifax will close its Sudbury store on August 12 after a lack of use

A spokesman for Halifax said just 463 people used the counter inside the branch four times in the six months up to November 2023.

A report into the Halifax closure said 32% of customers had used other Halifax banks in the last 12 months prior to November 2023, while 71% had used other branches or online banking in the previous six months.

When the branch closes, the next nearest Halifax will be in Colchester - more than 15 miles away.

Suffolk Archives, Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft

Communities had fought to save the record offices in Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft after the announcement by Suffolk County Council in February that the records were to move to The Hold in Ipswich.

Part of The Hold will close to the public from October until January 2025 while "substantial" work to move the records is carried out.

Co-Op and Post Office, Ipswich

The East of England Co-op in Cauldwell Hall Road, Ipswich, has announced due to changes within the business its last day of trading will be August 31.

The notice on the door states: "Our business is going through a portfolio reshape, opening new stores and refurbishing existing ones, as well as consolidating and closing some locations.

"We would like to say a huge thank you to you, our members and customers, and to the team at this store for the service they have provided over the years."

Employees at the branch will be offered jobs at other Co-op stores in the town.

The post office which operates from the store will also close on August 31.
