A plan for two three-bedroom houses in the garden of a Sudbury home has been submitted to the district council just days after a previous proposal was refused amid overdevelopment fears.
Plans for two homes behind 12 Clarence Road, on the corner of Stanley Road, were submitted to Babergh District Council on Friday, May 3.
This came just days after a previous plan by the same applicant for five one-bedroom homes on the land was refused on April 24.
The new plan would see two three-bedroom homes built on the plot, each with two parking spaces, external storage space and garden space to the back.
A document before the council reads: "This application omits 3 of the 5 houses and provides additional space for the retained garden of the existing house.
"This is a significant reduction of the built form and gives a generous spacing to the site to overcome the reason for refusal."
The plan would see 50% of the site retained as the garden to 12 Clarence Road and parking relocated so it is in a less prominent position.
The previous plan, submitted to Babergh District Council in February, was met with criticism, with 30 public comments of objection lodged on the council website, many of which were from neighbours.
One said: "The proposed development will significantly alter the character of the neighbourhood, crowding the area and obstructing views to the water meadows, which are cherished by residents."
Another wrote: "The addition of five more dwellings will exacerbate this congestion, increasing the likelihood of accidents and endangering lives."
Babergh District Council refused the proposal, stating that the application failed to demonstrate that five homes could be accommodated without appearing "cramped and overdeveloped".
The council said the plan would cause "unacceptable detriment to the character and appearance of the area" and raised issues with loss of privacy and "adverse visual bulk effects".
The latest plan is with Babergh District Council pending consideration.
