Tributes paid to Sam Parsons who died in Sudbury crash

Emergency services were called to the crash, involving a Ford Fiesta, in Sudbury Road, between Sudbury and Bulmer, at about 11.15pm on Saturday. 

The driver, who has now been named as Sam Parsons, died at the scene.

Tom Clark, chairman of Cornard United Football Club, where Sam played for the under-18s, said: "It is a complete shock. Sam was part of our under-18s team so with the age of all the lads it has come as quite a bit of a shock to them.

"His dad Jem managed the team as well and they have both been involved in the team for a long, long time. 

"Obviously it is awful news that nobody ever wants to hear. It is heart-breaking."

Mr Clark said Sam had passed his driving test "relatively recently". 

He said the teenager was a "stalwart" member of the team who was dedicated to football. 

"He was well-liked and respected by everybody in the team," he said.

"I knew him from a chairman point of view as a well-disciplined player, he was good to watch, he was a lovely lad and well-respected.

"Football for him and his dad was something they have always done together."

A statement on Cornard United's social media said: "Cornard United are saddened to have to announce that Sam Parsons tragically lost his life late on Saturday evening in a car accident. 

"Thoughts and love go out to the family at this incredibly difficult time and the club offers its full support."

A minute's silence will be held at Cornard United's home game against Whitton United on Tuesday evening.
